Private Sector Commission meets advisers on New Amsterdam deep-water port
The talks with an investment advisory firm focused on a planned Berbice port that involves Bechtel, CGX/NNE and the Ministry of Public Works.

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) held talks with Cross Boundary Advisory, an investment advisory firm. Kaieteur News reported that the talks looked at ways to invest around a deep-water port that Guyana has proposed for New Amsterdam, in Berbice.
iNews Guyana reported on 29 October 2026 that the PSC met on Tuesday with Jamie McInerney and Alfonso Pereira Calvo of Cross Boundary Advisory. They talked about ways to invest in Guyana and about key infrastructure projects.
iNews Guyana said the proposed port involves Bechtel and CGX/NNE. They are working with the Ministry of Public Works.
iNews Guyana said the talks covered how much cargo the port is likely to attract. They also covered links to Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados. The talks covered capital raising too, which means finding the money to pay for the project.
An older report from the Department of Public Information has no clear date. It gave details of the site. It said the wharf is being built on 30 acres of land on the eastern bank of the Berbice River, next to Crab Island.
The same report said CGX started the road works for the project. It also said the Region Six chairman expects the port to bring opportunities for Berbice residents.
The story was first reported by iNews Guyana.
