Cabinet has approved members for the Advisory Board for the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD). They will serve for one year, from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027.

The Official Gazette published the appointments on 20 October 2026. The notice puts the board in the Public Utilities Sector.

Dr. Ivor English is the board's Chairperson.

MARAD was set up under the Guyana Shipping Act (Act No.7 of 1998). It monitors, regulates and coordinates maritime activities in Guyana.

MARAD is an agency of the Ministry of Public Utilities and Aviation. It oversees maritime transport, river ferry services, port operations and navigation safety.

MARAD also came up in testimony about the MV Barima disaster. MARAD Captain Anthony Williams spoke to the MV Barima Commission of Inquiry. He said three MARAD vessels responded in the early stages.

Cabinet has named other boards too. The Guyana Power & Light Inc. board serves one year, from 27 August 2026 to 26 August 2027. The Guyana National Printers Ltd board also serves one year, from 3 September 2026 to 2 September 2027.

The Central Housing and Planning Authority board serves two years. Its term runs from 11 September 2026 to 10 September 2028.
