Government says over 4,000 Berbice house lots due by November
The government says Overwinning is about 91 per cent complete, but three contractors are behind schedule and may face penalties.

More than 4,000 house lots will open to Region Six residents by November, the government says. The plots form part of housing schemes being developed in two East Bank Berbice areas, Providence/Glasgow and Overwinning.
The Department of Public Information said in a statement published on 28 October 2026 that the Overwinning development is about 91 per cent complete.
Stabroek News reported that about 1,800 Berbicians received house lots at the Overwinning Housing Scheme. The lots were handed out at a housing drive in May 2025.
Stabroek News reported that in October 2025 the government announced a $14.8 billion infrastructure investment in the Providence, Glasgow and Overwinning areas. The money was for the first stage of work on nearly 6,000 house lots. The minister said completion was expected by the end of May.
iNews Guyana reported that the East Bank Berbice works were split into 25 contract lots. The lots were awarded to various contractors. The work covers land clearing, roads and drainage.
The Department of Public Information said the Overwinning works are split into 11 lots. They include water systems inside the development, and it said most of that work should be done within two weeks.
The department also said three contractors at Overwinning are behind schedule. The contractors will be engaged, and liquidated damages may be applied. Liquidated damages are money a contractor may have to pay for late work.
The department said more money is planned for water supply and electricity distribution as more people move in.
