EPA exempts NF Agriculture's Ebini farm from full environmental assessment

The Berbice farm project can skip a full impact study, but the agency says this is not an approval.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has determined that the NF Agriculture Inc integrated farm project at Ebini, Intermediate Savannahs, Berbice, will not significantly affect the environment. So the project does not need an Environmental Impact Assessment. This is a formal study of how a project could affect the environment.

The EPA announced its decision in a notice published on 28 October 2026. The agency warned that the decision is in no way a sign that the project is approved.

NF Agriculture Inc has been linked to Ebini before. In November 2018, NF Agriculture Inc was among the members of an investment group that presented a mega-farm plan for the Ebini intermediate savannah to the Guyana Government. The other members were Granterra, Castilho Construction and Mano Julio.

Stabroek News reported that Yucatan Reis, a Brazilian businessman, is a principal of NF Agriculture. The paper said he received state land at Ebini in March 2015. The paper said the land lies along the Berbice River's right bank.

Stabroek News also reported that in January 2022 the Government budgeted money for corn and soya development in three savannahs: Tacama, Wiruni and Ebini. The paper said these lie on the east side of the Berbice River. Stabroek News reported that the Government said the work would open about 61,000 hectares of farmland.

People who may be affected by the project can challenge the EPA's decision. They can file an appeal within thirty days of the day the notice was published.
