Georgetown welding and painting project needs no impact study
The EPA's decision is not an approval, and people who may be affected have 30 days to appeal.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has decided that a project by Asian Sealand Offshore and Marine Inc. will not have a big effect on the environment. The project covers fabrication, welding, abrasive blasting and protective painting. So it does not need an Environmental Impact Assessment, which is a formal study of how a project affects the environment.
The EPA made the decision public in a notice published on 28 October 2026. It said it had screened the company's application for an environmental permit. The works are proposed for Warehouse #5 Sublot 'E', Area 'SR2', Plantation Rome (North Section), Georgetown.
The EPA also warned that this is not an approval. It said the decision "is in no way an indication that this project is approved."
The agency made the same finding for another project, the Doe Park Guest House & Wellness Retreat. It has also screened logging applications from Mohamed Wazir Khan, Rovin Seekumar and Sunil Singh.
Anyone who may be affected by the proposed project can appeal the EPA's decision that no impact study is needed. The appeal must be made within 30 days of the notice's publication.
