EPA says A&S asphalt and concrete plant needs no impact study
The agency says the West Coast Demerara project needs no full study, but it says this is not an approval.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has decided that a planned asphalt plant and concrete batching plant at Ruimzeight, West Coast Demerara, does not need a full environmental impact study. A&S General Contractors Inc. is the company behind the project.
The EPA made this finding in a notice published on 28 October 2026. It said the project will not have a major effect on the environment. So the project does not have to do an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which is a formal study of how a project affects the environment.
The agency screened the company's application for an environmental permit. The project also includes aggregate storage, along with the asphalt and concrete batching plants.
The EPA made a point of saying that skipping the EIA does not mean the project can go ahead. It said the decision is "in no way an indication that this project is approved."
Anyone who may be affected by the project can appeal against the EPA's decision. The appeal must be made within 30 days after the notice was published. The notice was published on 28 October 2026.
The EPA reached a similar finding for another project, the Doe Park Guest House & Wellness Retreat. It said that project will not significantly affect the environment. That project also does not need an EIA.
The agency has also screened logging applications from Mohamed Wazir Khan, Rovin Seekumar and Sunil Singh.
