Cabinet names Guyana Power & Light board for one year
The new board runs from 27 August 2026 to 26 August 2027, but the notice only came out in October.

Cabinet has approved a new Board of Directors for Guyana Power & Light Inc. for one year. The term runs from 27 August 2026 to 26 August 2027.
The Official Gazette made the appointment public on 20 October 2026. The notice puts the board in the Energy Sector. The term began almost two months before the notice came out.
GPL makes and delivers electricity on the Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System. This is the main grid. It runs from Anna Regina to No. 53 Village in Berbice. The company falls under the Ministry of Public Utilities & Aviation.
The timing fits an earlier pattern. In 2020, Cabinet also named a GPL board for one year, starting 27 August 2020. Maurice Gajadhar was made chairman. The Department of Public Information reported that the Official Gazette published those appointments.
Cabinet has made other board picks recently. One is the Advisory Board of the Maritime Administration Department, known as MARAD. It runs from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027. Another is the board of Guyana National Printers Ltd, from 3 September 2026 to 2 September 2027. A third names members of the Central Housing and Planning Authority for two years from 11 September 2026.
The GPL board's one-year term ends on 26 August 2027.
