Guyana School of Agriculture trains students in hydroponics with IICA and EMC
The work builds on a US$500,000 IICA project to change the school, the Ministry of Agriculture said in 2024.

The Guyana School of Agriculture has been training people in hydroponics and protected agriculture, the Department of Public Information (DPI) said in a report published on 13 October 2026. Hydroponics is growing plants without soil.
DPI said two partners, IICA and EMC, support the training.
The link with IICA is not new: in October 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture said Guyana and IICA would work together to improve how agriculture is taught in the country. The plan was to set up a Centre of Excellence for Studies in Agriculture.
By May 2024, the ministry described the IICA project to change the school as a US$500,000 effort. It said the project aims to bring new training programmes and new technology to people in agriculture, at home and in the region.
The Agriculture Minister also pointed to hydroponics projects in three regions at that time.
