Guyana is a founding member of the Shield of the Americas and of the Americas Counter Cartel Coalition, the Department of Public Information (DPI) said in a report published on 16 October 2026. The report also noted that the US-Guyana Investment Forum was held in Washington in July 2026.

GIS Reports said the Shield of the Americas was formed on 7 March 2026. The United States and 12 Latin American countries joined it. The aim is to counter drug cartels across the Western Hemisphere.

Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck also names Guyana among the original members of the Shield of the Americas. It says the group launched in March 2026. The United States, Argentina, Chile, and Trinidad and Tobago are also founding members.
