Avalon expects about 1,200 jobs during construction and 800 to 850 jobs once Omai is running, if the project goes ahead.

Avalon Gold Exploration Incorporated has started talks with the Linden Technical Institute. The discussions concern possible training for workers who could be employed if Avalon goes ahead with redeveloping the Omai gold site. The aim is to get possible workers ready for jobs at the site.

Details published on 16 October 2026 said an Avalon team led by CEO Elaine Ellingham recently visited Linden. The team toured the technical departments of the Linden Technical Institute. Avalon said it would look at possible partnerships with the institute and the Board of Industrial Training.

A separate report published on 17 October 2026 said Avalon is approaching the institute about training Guyanese workers before the proposed redevelopment of the Omai Gold Project in Region Seven.

Avalon expects the proposed mine could create about 1,200 jobs during construction. It could then support 800 to 850 jobs once it is operating, if the project goes ahead.

Jobs are not the only chance for local people. The company has named areas where local businesses would take part as the project grows. They include transport, construction, engineering, accommodation, catering and maintenance, as well as equipment and other support services.

Avalon is progressing technical, environmental and regulatory work on the Omai project, which is proposed for Region Seven.

The company said construction could start in about 24 months. That timeline depends on finishing technical work, getting environmental and regulatory approvals, and securing financing. It also depends on a final decision to go ahead with construction.
