Demerara Bank opens housing loans with no fees and no contribution
Single-parent households come first, and families can apply online.

Demerara Bank has opened applications for its Housing Aid programme. It offers housing loans to families who cannot afford to start building. The programme has no fees and asks for no contribution from applicants.
Kaieteur News reported that the programme is now open. Its report came out on 20 October 2026.
Guyana Times reported that the loans are for families who own land, or were given land by the Ministry of Housing. These families cannot afford to start building.
Single-parent households will get priority. The bank will also look at other families who need housing.
Applicants must meet three conditions. They need a stable income, from a job or from self-employment. They also need a satisfactory credit history. And they need documents that prove they have land or a housing allocation.
Samaroo said there are no processing charges, no legal fees and no inspection fees. Samaroo also said no contribution is required.
People who are interested can apply online on the Demerara Bank website.
